A Japanese brand name does not always mean the product was made in Japan. Here is how I check before I list anything.
When I build this list I open each product's own Amazon page and look for a plain statement of origin. If it is not there, the item stays off the site.
Watch out for words like Japanese style, Japan design or Japanese brand. They describe a look or a company, not where the item was made.
Does a Japanese brand mean it is made in Japan?
Not always. Many Japanese brands make some or all of their products in other countries, and some brands make one model in Japan and a similar one elsewhere. Check the exact model.
Where do I find the country of origin on Amazon?
Open the product page and scroll to Product information or Product details. Look for Country of Origin or Country of Manufacture. Also read the bullet points and the description for phrases like Made in Japan.
What if the listing does not say?
If the listing says nothing, I do not list it. A maker's reputation alone is not proof, so I only include items whose listing states Japan, or whose maker builds that whole line in Japan and says so.
Can the listing change?
Yes. Sellers can edit listings and makers can move production. Check the page again before you buy, especially for gifts.
